Modeling Extreme Rainfall Events in the Tropical Monsoon Region: A Generalized Pareto Distribution Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Extreme weather events have become more frequent due to climate change, and extreme rainfall is a common occurrence in the tropical monsoon areas. Makassar City was chosen as representative area of the climate. The objective this research utilize generalized Pareto distribution (GPD), along with its nested model (exponential), predict monthly return levels designated geographical region. study utilized daily precipitation data from January 1980 December 2022. To determine that exceeds certain threshold, peaks over threshold (POT) method applied. result discovered exponential most appropriate for series months, except February July, where GPD appropriate. No trends or seasonal patterns were identified any months. calculated each month at 2, 3, 5, 10-year periods indicate has highest level all selected compared other months following closely behind. These findings are expected assist government developing flood prevention strategies mitigating their effects, particularly during rainy seasons peak city, which February.

Characterization of the Frequency of Extreme Events by the Generalized Pareto Distribution
Recent results in extreme value theory suggest a new technique for statistical estimation of distribution tails (Embrechts et al., 1997), based on a limit theorem known as the GnedenkoPickands-Balkema-de Haan theorem. This theorem gives a natural limit law for peak-overthreshold values in the form of the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD), which is a family of distributions with two paramete...
متن کاملActive Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events
After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units. In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

[1] We investigate the spatial characteristics of extreme rainfall synchronicity of the South American Monsoon System (SAMS) by means of Complex Networks (CN). By introducing a new combination of CN measures and interpreting it in a climatic context, we investigate climatic linkages and classify the spatial characteristics of extreme rainfall synchronicity. Although our approach is based on onl...
متن کاملThe Beta Generalized Pareto Distribution
A new distribution called the beta-generalized Pareto is proposed. Several properties of this distribution are presented. The expressions for the mean, mean deviation, variance, and entropies are obtained. The method of maximum likelihood is proposed to estimate the parameters of the distribution. The flexibility of this distribution is illustrated in an application to a real data set.
متن کاملInvestigation of the atmospheric circulation anomalies associated with extreme rainfall events over the Coastal West Africa
This study investigates the atmospheric circulation associated with extreme rainfall events over the coastal West Africa. The rainfall data of this study were obtained from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), spanning from 1981 to 2010. The atmospheric datasets were also obtained from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. The study employed the Z-Index to categorize dry and wet years into...
